Job Description

The Production Manager is responsible for daily production and order fulfillment at the Plum St. Roastery. They are the first person on the floor each day, completing “set-up” procedures to ensure the roasting and production teams have what they need to roast, package, and ship the day’s orders accurately and efficiently. In addition to set-up responsibilities, the Production Manager supervises and works alongside the production team to package and fulfill orders as they are roasted. The Production Manager provides support and situational trouble-shooting to Passenger customers and wholesale partners and is additionally responsible for ensuring that all production line equipment is working correctly and safely.


  • Collaborates with the Director of Operations and the Head Roaster to consistently maintain and refine Passenger standards of coffee quality, product presentation, and customer service.

  • Responsible, with the support of the roasting and production teams, for the accurate and efficient fulfillment of all Passenger orders.

  • Floor manager for the production team.

  • Hires, trains, and manages production team schedules, and other HR processes.

  • Maintains a safe, respectful, and positive work environment for the Production and Roasting teams.

  • Supports Director of Operations in maintaining appropriate inventory levels for all non-coffee inventory needs.

  • Keeps the production floor clean and organized, delegating responsibilities as necessary.

  • Point person for all shipping provider pickups, deliveries, and returns. Cultivates and maintains positive working relationships with UPS, USPS, Fedex, and DHL.

  • Responds to retail customer or wholesale partner order-related questions or concerns in a timely and professional way.

General Requirements

  • Hold a PA Driver’s License and maintain a safe driving record.

  • Be a respectable citizen of the city or neighboring town within a 30 mile radius of HQ.

  • Own a cell phone with the ability to call, text, email, and support work-related applications.

  • Work a minimum of 40 hours a week and accept that responsibilities may fall outside of the M-F daytime hours.

  • Proficiency with email, Google Suite and operations-related applications.

  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate in verbal and written formats.

  • Basic computer and typing skills.

  • Ability to work independently and lead a team in a positive and constructive manner.

  • Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities with an attentiveness to detail.

  • Leadership and organizational skills with the propensity to properly manage time and the ability to prioritize and delegate tasks and projects.

  • Capable of transforming ideas and concepts into task lists and project timelines.

  • Knowledge of industry regulatory and safety policies and procedures.

  • Ability to ensure adherence of established procedures and quality standards.

  • Reports hazards and/or injuries as soon as they occur.

  • Intentional about decreasing waste and any negative environmental impacts.

  • Knowledge and interest of B-Corp practices; using a for-profit business to solve a social problem via social enterprise.

  • Reliable transportation to work.

  • If driving, must have a valid driver’s license and submit a Motor Vehicle report before time of hire.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Must be able to lift 50-75 pounds.

  • In an 8-hour work day: standing/walking 6-8 hours.

  • Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching.

  • Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.

  • Occasional exposure to temperatures: <32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing)

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

  • Ability to use warehouse equipment, including handcarts, pallet jacks, forklift, and ladders.

Desired Work Experience

  •  Experience in the specialty coffee industry and specifically production roasting.

  • Leadership and/or management experience.


Salary Range: $38,000-$46,000

Reports to: Director of Operations
