The names of many phoenix oolong cultivars end with the mandarin word “Xiang” meaning aroma. The other part of the name often refers to the flower, fruit, or vegetable that the tea’s aroma conjures, as in this case: the Honey Orchid. The producer of this tea, Mr. Chan, tends to 100+ year old trees planted by his great-grandfather and roasted this particular tea very gently to accentuate its exquisite floral character.
