Release #9: El Injerto Pacamara 2017
It is certainly no exaggeration to describe El Injerto as one of Latin America's most remarkable coffee farms. Located in the famous Guatemalan producing region of Huehuetenango, El Injerto possesses a threefold dedication: to coffee quality, environmental responsibility and increasing the quality of life for its employees and those living around the farm. The first coffee farm to become carbon neutral certified in Guatemala, and the source of multiple 1st place winning lots at the Guatemala Cup of Excellence Competition, El Injerto is a specialty coffee champion on many levels.
Passenger was honored to present this incredibly nuanced expression of the pacamara variety, purchased at El Injerto's annual auction, on the Reserve Lot menu back in 2017. As with many of our favorite coffees over the years, we set aside a small amount of this lot in our frozen archive to roast and enjoy at a later date. Revisiting it in 2021 confirms our fond memories of this coffee as a remarkable example of plant genetics, terroir, and processing converging to create something truly spectacular.
In the cup, this fresh roast of the 2017 El Injerto Pacamara presents an incredibly complex flavor profile in an elegant, gentle manner. Varied tropical fruits on the nose lead into a cup characterized by palate coating caramel sweetness and refreshing flavors of raspberry and guava on the finish.
